Scoil Mhuire prides itself on being a sugar-free school. We encourage children to bring a healthy packed lunch each day.   Parents/Guardians are asked to visit www.safefood.eu for healthy lunch tips. Typically a healthy lunch is one which only contains items from the following four categories; 1.) Bread and Cereals   2.) Meat and Meat Alternatives  3.) Fruit and Vegetables  4.) Dairy Products/Dairy Alternatives  & Water or Milk.

Foods Encouraged: Fruit, vegetables, sandwiches, wraps, rolls, yogurts (not in infants), milk & water.

Foods Not Encouraged: Food/drinks not encouraged include juice, cordials and cereal bars.

Food/Drinks Strictly not allowed: Crisps, peanuts*, peanut butter*, chewing/bubble gum, fizzy drinks, chocolate and chocolate spread*, sweets, pastries and biscuits.

As we are a Green School, please be mindful of the environment when packing lunches: use reusable lunchboxes, drink containers and avoid the use of cling film, tinfoil, plastic bags etc where at all possible.  Children are also encouraged to take home the remains of their lunches.

We also work with ‘The lunch bag’, they are a healthy school lunch delivery service that delivers  to the school each day.  Parents simply download the App & order their child’s lunch, there are smaller portions available for infants.  Please note, lunch needs to be ordered before 12.00 the previous day in order to ensure delivery.  For further details see www.thelunchbag.ie

*There are a number of students in the school with serious nut allergies so we kindly ask all lunches contain no nuts or food containing nuts.
