At Scoil Mhuire we encourage our students to take part in different types of extra-curricular activities. We are very lucky to have staff members who volunteer their time to coach and run various activities. We try to offer a wide range of activities to accommodate the different personalities of our students. Activities include:
GAA – We pride ourselves in the success of our teams in Cumann na mBunscol competitions in hurling, camogie and gaelic football.
Soccer – We participate in the hugely popular SPAR FAI Primary School 5-a-side competition which is open to boys and girls in the senior classes from primary schools across Ireland.
Athletics – Students from 3rd to 6th Class participate in local school running events. We are delighted to see the fitness levels of the students improving and several of them have joined the local athletics club as a result of participating. We have had some great successes in recent years and look forward to many more.
Choir – Scoil Mhuire has outstanding musicians and singers. The school choir sings for special events within school and in the local community throughout the year. A lot of hard work and practice is put in each year by the students and staff involved.
Music – Children are very fortunate to be offered a lot of musical opportunities as they progress through the school. In 2nd & 3rd class they learn the tin whistle, in 4th & 5th class the violin and in 6th class African drumming.
Student Council – The job of members is to notify the council if their class has any problem or any good suggestions to improve the welfare of the school community. The student council is the voice of the students in our school.
Active Schools Committee – We worked hard in 2018/19 to earn our Active Schools status. Exercise is encouraged throughout the day and we strive to achieve a physically active school community. Our emphasis is fun & inclusion.
Encourage your child to get involved in clubs and committees of interest. It is a great opportunity to be involved in other aspects of school life.
